Restaurante Playa Mar

We walked along Puerto del Carmen and the area is not great. It's tacky at best. Then we came across Playa Mar and we instantly knew where we were going to have lunch. A quick check of the reviews, 4.1, did not do it justice. We ordered king prawns and my dish was fish, the sole. It was amazing, served on a large plate and this fish was bigger than the plate. It was tasty amd cooked to perfection. We finished with banana Split and Princess, a bit like a knickerbocker glory. The proper cotton napkins are indicative of the quality of the food and restaurant. The staff were friendly and efficient. We enjoyed a bottle of Mateus and it was a lunch to remember, highly recommended and excellent.

Best steak we had on the strip, by some distance. Incredible value for the size and quality of the meat. If I am being picky it's a pity they have frozen chips instead of homemade ones but you can forgive them that given the quality of everything else. Service is great as well, attentive, prompt and humourful. For some reason this place never had a queue when we passed while other, more inferior, places had long queues outside. Don't let that fool you.

Third time visiting this beautiful restaurant nestled along the picturesque coastline, Playa Mar Restaurant offers an inviting ambience that perfectly complements its stunning waterfront views. My recent visit had me excited to indulge in their fillet mignon steak, and I was not disappointed. The first bite revealed a beautifully tender cut, bursting with flavour. The richness of the beef combined with the smokiness of the bacon created a delightful harmony on the palate. It was evident that this dish was expertly prepared, showcasing the skill of the kitchen staff. Accompanying the steak was a perfectly baked jacket potato topped with garlic butter. The potato was fluffy and well-seasoned, and the garlic butter added a decadent touch that elevated the dish. It provided a comforting contrast to the robust flavours of the steak and was an ideal partner on the plate. To round out the meal, I opted for the gravy dip. This sauce was a wonderful blend of flavours, providing a subtle zing that played nicely off the richness of the steak and the creamy garlic butter. A dip that wasn’t just an afterthought, it added an extra layer of enjoyment to the entire dining experience. As for the atmosphere, Playa Mar exudes a relaxed yet sophisticated vibe, making it suitable for both casual meals and special occasions. The staff was friendly and attentive without being intrusive, adding to the overall enjoyable experience.

Beautiful location sitting out by the coast, food overall excellent, desert probably a little underwhelming but main and starters excellent. Staff really attentive. Really nice family atmosphere to the restaurant and one which we would revisit. We scored it 4 stars but would be 4.5 / 5

Visited 1 week ago (twice). Best restaurant on the promenade in PDC. Both had pork chops on first visit, simple but very tasty. 2nd visit we had padron peppers to share for a starter, then I had fish of the day, served with lovely fresh salad and new potatoes, hubby had half roast chicken, both meals very well cooked and tasty.

Living in the Canaries, I'm always a little nervous of any restaurants on any "strips". But this came as a recommendation from a friend, and it did not disappoint. The fillet steak was incredible - perfectly cooked to medium as requested, as was so soft to eat. Not one piece of fat or gristle. Does not need any sauce at all. One of the best I've had for a long time. The fact it is cooked on the BBQ really adds to the flavour. Service was great, and would happily come back again.
